Conscious Sedation for a Stress-Free Visit to the Dentist
At Ascent Dental Care Loughborough we see many patients who are nervous or anxious about visiting the dentist. However, for some patients, this fear can become more extreme, sometimes to the point where dental phobia takes over their lives.
This kind of fear and anxiety can be extremely distressing and is very difficult to overcome. Often, dental fear can stem from deep-rooted, unpleasant childhood dental experiences that have grown in the mind over time.
Dental phobia of this nature can have a very negative impact on a patient’s entire life. We often see patients who ‘put off’ the dental treatment that they want or need due to dental fear or phobia. Unfortunately, this creates a negative theme, whereby patients end up with tooth-ache or are embarrassed about the state of their smile which only adds increased levels of anxiety and distress to an already unhappy patient.
I was a very nervous patient and have tried various dentists. Mandeep was very understanding and talked me through my options for treatment. I thought I would need sedation for my root canal but I saw Jesal and he reassured me I would be fine without. And I was! All the staff are lovely and didn’t make me feel silly for being anxious. Alex and Felicia were very helpful. I feel like I can go to the dentist now for regular check ups instead of avoiding it. What is Conscious Sedation?
Conscious Sedation (also known as ‘twilight sedation’, ‘IV sedation’, or ‘sleep sedation’) is a wonderful and extremely safe technique that encourages a deep state of relaxation. At Loughborough Dental, we use a sedative called ‘Midazolam’. The sedative is not designed to ‘put you to sleep’, but is used as a relaxant (although we do find that many patients naturally fall asleep during treatment!).
Patients are usually responsive during treatment (you may hear voices and respond to the gentle squeeze of your hand) but the amnesic effect of the drug will mean that patients remember very little of the procedure afterwards. In addition, patients treated under conscious sedation will often lose track of time, and a very long appointment will appear to be over in minutes.
At Ascent Dental Care Loughborough, patients treated using dental sedation have remained very relaxed throughout the entire procedure.

Couldn’t recommend highly enough from the lovely reception staff to the professional and calming dentist who did my root canal treatment today. I was originally referred as I was a very nervous patient and wanted sedation. But after meeting the dentist he assured me I would cope under local anaesthetic which I did and the whole procedure was totally painless. Thank you.

Had my permanent bridge fitted yesterday, Jyoti was absolutely brilliant, she made me feel at ease throughout all my visits .
Highly recommended ascent and Jyoti – terrific service
Good Morning, following my wife: Gilly’s, superb experience at Ascent l have bitten the bullet and have had treatment myself. Since a child l have had wonkey teeth and have been overly conscious of my smile. I booked in to see Jyoti: who worked a minor miracle on Gilly’s broken front tooth, and how glad l am, although l suspect all the dentists have the same expertise. I had my initial appraisal and after a thorough check up and discussion l decided on composite bonding preceeded by home teeth whitening. The whitening was followed by a further appointment to finalise the bonding work and see a mock up that Jyoti had made showing me how my teeth would look after bonding. Once agreed, the game was on😬😬, Final appointment 2 weeks later and I shouldn’t have worried, 2 1/2 hours in the chair and the work was completed with no injections, no pain, slight discomfort but to be expected. Then came the big reveal, no fanfare or band playing, just Jyoti and her dental tech smiling and holding a mirror for me to look at my, “new” self. I can’t accurately describe how l felt, after so many years of smiling with a closed mouth or the hand over my mouth, l could now see straight white: not too white, gleaming teeth, overjoyed about sums it up. Anyway, enough of me, Jyoti is in my opinion a fabulous dentist with a smashing manner and approach, not at all pushy and is respectful of her patients input, faultless. When you then add the fantastic and friendly girls/ladies on reception, in my case Caitlan and Ellie, the whole dentist experience is on a level l have never felt before in a dentists surgery. Bottom line, Gilly and l have fallen on our feet choosing Ascent and have now joined their care plan. Thanks to all. Rgds Peter Battersby JP
I have been with this dentist for the last 40yrs, recently it has changed hands and booking appointments has been difficult at times, but the care is great. Today I had a wisdom tooth removed. The proceedure was fine and completely painless, Simon is great as the consulting surgeon for more complex surgery, I recommend him 100%
Amazing experience every time I’ve been. I was petrified of having my first root canal and was completely put at ease. No pain at all (genuinely!) and the aftercare was incredible. I’ve had a lot of dental treatment in the past and never had everything explained so thoroughly and clearly, never rushed through. Highly recommend!

Recently I had root canal work done by Dr Jesal Savania to cure and rescue an infected tooth. I dreaded what was to come when I heard that I’d have to undergo a root canal procedure. I need not have worried!! Jesal was quite an amazing surgical expert. I experienced negligible pain and was kept informed all the way through about what was happening and before I knew it, it was done. What is also incredible was that the whole procedure was carried out through an existing crown. The crown was created some decades earlier but rather than waste it, Jesal was so skilled he rescued both crown and underlying tooth and left me feeling calm and even relaxed in the dentist chair when it was all done ! This excellent dentist and the dental practice are to be congratulated on an excellent outcome. Thank you!
The treatment teceived from my dentist (Shiv) and his nurse (Holly) was excellent.. i had a crown fitted amd the whole process was went very smoothly. Shiv explained clearly all the steps he was taking and took great care to ensure the crown was a good fit.

I had a lingual brace fitted to my top teeth with Ascent Dental last year and I am very pleased with the results. I had some overcrowding and crookedness which has now been resolved and I feel much more confident with my smile! I would definitely recommend this type of brace if you are wishing to straighten your teeth invisibly, no one even noticed that I had a brace unless I pointed it out. The staff were very helpful and supportive during my treatment. I am now considering having my bottom teeth done with the same type of brace.
